What do “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Black Swan” and “The King’s Speech” have in common? They’re all universal stories that have translated into multiple Academy Award wins, with global box office revenues of more than USD 300 million each! While Bollywood’s talking about going global, young filmmaker Mukul Deora has quietly bagged a prestigious international project, “The White Tiger”.
Mukul’s producing a film on the Booker Prize winning novel. His partener is Hollywood producer John Hart, whose last film was the Oscar nominated “Revolutionary Road”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and
Kate Winslet. Patrick Milling Smith of the New York based Smuggler Films is also producing the film.
Mukul says, “When entering global cinema, you need a story that connects with everyone, that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries with its emotional content. I believe “The White Tiger” is an universal story; a scathing satire on the journey of a poor man through the corrupt system in contemporary India. Its extremely relevant to what is happening today, and I’m happy to be getting an opportunity to tell this story.”
Mukul is also producing the sequel to the hit “Bheja Fry”, that will release on June 17. Mukul says, ““Bheja Fry 2” is a comic adventure that takes the core strengths of the original and blows it up into a bigger, better sequel.”
